Former Hastings boss John Maggs is back in management after returning to Crawley Down Gatwick.

The 70-year-old was sacked by United in January after five months in the job.

Maggs had quit as the Anvils boss only last May after one season at the helm but has returned to replace Francis Vines, who carried the can after losing 12 and drawing two of his 14 games in charge.

The club are second from bottom in Ryman League Division One South and Maggs has been tasked with keeping them up.

The veteran former Horsham manager said: “Time is against us because of the signing deadline being Monday but I will do everything in my power to get enough players in to see if we can get four or five wins which might keep us up.”
