SKRILL SOUTH – Tuesday March 18 2014
Bromley 2 May 28, Swaine 72
Eastbourne Borough 1 Hammond 84
Eastbourne Borough suffered their first away defeat of 2014 as they were edged out by Skrill South pacesetters Bromley at Hayes Lane on Tuesday night.
Both sides had early spells of pressure in an open game.
Former Lewes midfielder Ali Fuseini went close for Bromley while Borough’s Stacy Long forced a save from home keeper Joe Welch and Elvis Hammond fired wide.
The home side, who have fallen behind Eastleigh in the race for the title, made the most of a good spell of play when they took the lead on 27 minutes.
Jay May showed good feet and composure to blast the ball through a crowded area into the net after good work from Brendan Kiernan.
The chances continues as Borough skipper Ian Simpemba headed just off target while at the other end Joe Anderson went close with a free kick and Rob Swaine nodded wide.
The second half took a while to get going. May missed a good chance to score when one-on-one with Borough keeper Craig Ross and he also had an effort cleared off the line after a great ball from Fuseini.
Bromley doubled their lead on 72 minutes when a Kiernan corner was eventually bundled over the line after coming off the post by a combination of ex-Crawley striker Pierre-Joseph Dubois and Swaine.
With six minutes to go, Borough grabbed a lifeline when a deep corner was turned over the line by Hammond from close range, but they couldn’t fashion an equaliser.
