Borough extend deals for Derry and Long

Eastbourne Borough have signed striker Tom Derry on contract and extended the loan of midfielder Stacy Long until the end of the season.

Derry, 19, had been on loan from Gillingham but was released by the League One club earlier this month.

Borough boss Tommy Widdrington was keen to keep hold of the striker, with a pledge to allow him to train with Football League clubs should the chance arise.

Long’s loan from Skrill South rivals Ebbsfleet has been extended for a final month, up to the 93 days allowed for short-term loans.

Winger Mani Akokhia, who only rejoined Borough from Staines in December, has been released by the club for the second time this season.

Widdrington said: “I’m not closing the door on Manni but, unfortunately for him, since scoring the winner at Whitehawk he hasn’t really regained full fitness and this is unlikely to change due to lack of time between now and the end of the season.

“I wish him all the best and he has an invitation to attend pre-season training to cement a place here for next season.”
